Truncated Email Addresses

I imported 500+ addresses into contacts, but many email addresses became
truncated, only showing the first letter ie (e-mail address removed) becomes
<a>

I went into Outlook and displayed all contacts using "views" and manually
corrected each one. They now show correctly in each person's "address card".
However the attempt to start an email directly or from a distribution list
still results in the email displayed as the original truncated form in the
"To" field.

eg TO.......adam smith (a) <a>

I'd do them all over again from scratch, but there are so many.
