Trying to understand how folders work

K

Kurch

I recently began using Entourage.

My email address is [email protected]. On the left side of the box it lists
all my folders. There are two headings. One is called "Folders on My
Computer" and it lists the Inbox, Drafts, Outbox, etc. It appears to be
inactive.

Below it there are the same folders but the icons have a little green
cable attached to them. These fodlers appear to be active as my email
activity is stored here.

What is the difference between the two folder areas? And how does one
make one active vs. the other active?

thanks,

You must be using your dot mac account as an IMAP account - in which case
the primary message store is on-line, not 'on your computer'. If the
Entourage data were deleted from your computer, you could still access the
content on-line, or could reload into entourage.

POP accounts are different - when they read mail they (by default) delete
the mail from the server, so your primary mail store is 'on your computer'.

HTH!
