turning off the "you have mail" verbal alert

I have standard edition office 2003 student home version of office. How can
I turn off the "you have mail" alert? I have already unchecked this option
in the e-mail options windows but it still makes this announcement when new
mail arives. It is especially troublesome if I receive mail while recording
music-the alert notice then gets recorded as well.
Thanks for the advice.

Outlook does not have this option. It is a third party problem. What is
your e-mail provider? Do they have an option for an audio alert?
