Turning off ""View - Arrange By - Show in Groups" setting?

M

Michael A. Russell

Is there any way to de-activate the default "View - Arrange By - Show in
Groups" setting in Entourage 2004? I do not find it useful, and re-building
the database forces me to turn it off each time. Any ideas? Thanks, --

Why are you rebuilding the database more then once a year or so? You
shouldn't be doing that. "Compact" is OK if you really must. Do not rebuild
the database unless you have a serious problem that cannot be fixed by any
other means - it's not good for your hard disk and does nothing you need.

I connect with an Exchange server, and occasionally messages in my mailboxes
(primarily the In Box) will be "lost" - they disappear from my list.
Rebuilding the database is the only way to get them back.

But regardless, my original question was: is there any way to deactivate the
"View - Arrange By - Show in Groups" setting?

Have you tried "Compact"?

Only by turning it off. Settings for that are apparently stored in the
database rather than in Preferences. If "Compact" works for your reset,
there's a good chance that it won't change your setting.

Just in case you might not be aware, you don't have to change the "Show in
Groups" setting from View menu. You can also do it by clicking on the
"Arrange By" column header in the folder list, which saves a click and some
mouse movement.
