Two months of stored email disappeared...

This is driving me insane. I've a folder in Entourage that stores a lot of
correspondence with one of my employees. Today, when I went to look for an
email from him, from two weeks ago I noticed that almost two months worth of
stored emails had disappeared. For the life of me I can not figure out what
happened.

Do folders that get large start deleting mail on their own after a limit is
met...

I've gone through all the stuff in the DELETED folder, just in case, and the
missives aren't there.

What happened?

I don't have any solutions to offer, but I just wanted to say that I've
had the same experience of deleted data with Entrouge. I've spent hours
putting contacts in to the address book only to come back the next day
and find none of the information there anymore.

I went to the Apple store and had them look at my computer to see if it
was the problem, but they think it's a software issue. I'm not willing
to pay Microsoft to look at it, so I just make sure to archive each and
every time I use the program.

It's ridiculous and another reason why I don't like Microsoft.

Entourage does not suto-delete mail, but you mail server might - it is
possible that stuff on an exchange server is being auto-deleted - the sysad
can set it up that way to conserve storage space.

If they don't do that, then It is possibly an early sign of mild database
corruption.

Office vX:
Hold down the option key when starting Entourage and take the first option
('typical rebuild'). If this doesn¹t resolve the problems, then try an
ŒAdvanced Rebuild¹.

Office 2004:
You still call the rebuilder by holding down Option key at launch, but it
now brings up a separate app "Database Utility" (which could be launched by
double-clicking of you wish) that lives in the Office subfolder.

First of all, if you have any Office apps open, a dialog comes up that
offers to quit them.

Then you get a window with a list of your identities to select from, and
four options:

1) It has a new feature "Verify database integrity" option: this should
reduce unnecessary rebuilding. Apparently it's quite sensitive. And see 4)
below.

2) "Compact the database". (Like X's "Typical rebuild").

3) Rebuild the database. (Like X's "Advanced Rebuild")

4) "Set database preferences". Actually there's only one pref: you can turn
on "Verify database in background "which means "run automatically" and let
you know if your database needs rebuilding.

No that isn't how my mailserver is set up.

I noticed today when I shut down Entourage, to prepare to the 'typical
rebuild' an activity window of sorts came up and started listing something
about 'deleting' items, and showing how many items were being deleted . It
was bizarre. What was that about?

I did this. But where is the old information stored and why did I see no
changes at all (thank goodness) in my existing set up of folders and
contents in Entourage. Also, none of the 'missing' emails were returned
after the rebuild.
