Type 1 Fonts not available in Word 2003 on WinXP

How do I use the Type 1 (Adobe) fonts installed on my computer in Word? The drop-down menu does not show them. Why not? Other applications do

I have a very expensive professional font we use for our restaurant menus in PageMaker and other documents, and it is a part of our website's typography, too. I'd like to be able to create some quick printed material in Word with this, and not always need to use a graphics or pre-press application.

Hi Brian

You'll need to select a PostScript printer to see the fonts - Word only
shows fonts that are available on the current printer. If you don't have a
real printer installed you can install an appropriate PS printer driver, but
note that if you then try to print to a non-PS printer, the fonts will be
substituted anyway.

I'm surprised you are using an unusual PostScript font for website design,
unless this is just in some graphical elements - have you looked at the
results on a variety of computers and browsers?

You can print Type 1 fonts on non-PS printers if you have a recent version
of Adobe Type Manager. Additionally, Windows 2000 and above don't need ATM
to handle Type 1 fonts.

I have a WinXP machine. No ATM installed, but as just as you said I thought it was unnecessary. Any ideas?

Margaret, thanks for your help. The font ("Mrs Eaves" by Zuzanna Licko of Emigre.. check it out if you're curious) isn't what the pages are displayed in per se; where it's important to display the font choice we've made .gif's

It's available as a .ttf. I'm just trying to avoid paying another $300 to get that .tt

I'll go look to see if I can get a ps driver for this printer now. Thanks again!
