Unable to compact and rebuild database

JOSE F. SIMAN

Hi, I have been trying to compact and rebuild my database and when it
reaches step 4, the Microsoft Database Utility crashes.

My Entourage seems slow when moving from Mail to address book, I thought I
could fix it compacting and rebuilding, but I have tried several times and
it always crashes asking if I want to send a message to Microsoft.

Can anyone from Microsoft help me with this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

This could be a space issue. When rebuilding Entourage needs twice the
amount on your hard drive to rebuild. On top of that your system needs
breathing room. See this page for help with performance issues.

To help performance, be sure to add your Identities folder to Spotlight
Exclude list. See this page for more tips to help performance.

Problems from Insufficient RAM and Free Hard Disk Space

This is not an official Microsoft support forum. It's a newsgroup that has
volunteers that help other users find answers. I hope you have found this
useful. If you continue to have problems, please post back with more
details. Be sure to include what version of Entourage, what OS and details
about your system. For example:

G4 Dual 1.42 GHZ, Memory 2GB, Mac OS X 10.5.1

Hi Diane,
Thank you for your response.
I have 30 GB free in my hard drive, so I wouldn't think it's a space issue.
Also, when I try to rebuild, I don't have any other application open. My
computer has 2 GB RAM and nothing else is running when doing the rebuild.
I have excluded my identities folder from spotlight. I will try doing a
rebuild again.

Another issue I have found is that when I create a Group in my address book,
with say 4 recipients to whom I want to send emails all the time, when I
select the group in Mail, Entourage says I have 5 recipients instead of the
4 in the group.
When I open the group, there's always an empty recipient that you cannot
remove. This is an empty recipient ready for one to type in, but Entourage
saves the group as if this empty recipient had real data.
This is causing some problems with my SMTP server, who is always sending an
email to me when I use a group to send email to.

I hope this is clear.

Best regards.

Jose

Are you sure Notifications/Reminders is turned off? Look in Activity Monitor
to be sure.

If I had the version you were using I might be better able to respond. My
first suggestion would be to create a new Identity in Entourage and see if
you see the same behavior.

Export your contacts as either a tab delimited file or an Entourage archive
(.rge) file to use in your testing.

It would help to have this info.

I also noticed you Cc me. I use an invalid no spam address. It does not
receive email. I highly suggest you use a no spam address as robots scan
lists like these.

For directions on creating your own fake 'nospam' account see:

Hi Diane, thank you for responding.

Yes, notificacions are off, when I log in to Entourage again, it asks me if
I want to turn them on again.

I will try to rebuild again tonight and let you know tomorrow.

Good night and best regards.
