Unable to Connect to Project Server from Project Proff

Hi,

We are encountering problem in connect to Project Server
2002 from Project Professional 2002( we do not have
connecting from 200 or 2002 std).

As we choose the Microsoft Project Server Account, we get
the following error pop-up in Project Proff :

1. Microsoft Project Server was unable to find the
speciifed project.
Check the project name and version. If problem
continues, contact your server administrator

after clicking 'ok', we ge the second pop-up

2. Cannot connect.

Microsoft Project was unable to establish a connection

with selected Microsoft Project Server. This could be

caused by a loss of network connectivity, invalid

username or password, lack of enterprise global

template, problems with the Microsoft Project Server or

database, or your Microsoft Project Server may not have

enterprise features enabled.

We tried with both Windows & Project server accounts, but
the error. The same Project Server(URL) is accessible very
well in the browser & even gets successfully validated
while "Test Connection" is click in Project Server Account
creation.

Even with trying "http://localhost/projectserver" as url
in the server comp, we are encountering this error.
Earlier, we noticed this problem in few systems but now
all system in the network can't connect.

Is it anything to do with the network ? How to confirm it ?

Any help to resolve it is highly appreciated.

Regards

Sriram

having said that u can access the Web from the same machine, this is might
not be a network issue. check the user account ur using in proj prof to
connect to the server. for the sake of testing, use an account with PM group
assignment.

If it doesn't work even with localhost, it probably means something else
than network problems. I would bet you rather changed a client or server
configuration, upgraded the OS or something like this.

I would bet it has to do with the locales. Check if:
* default codepage on server and client computers is set to English (or
the language of Project Server you use).
* default codepage on SQL Server dataase for Project Server is set as above.

Hi,
I am assuming you are trying to connect, from within the
same domain. If not, that is if you are connecting, across
the internet, one option could be to open port 1433 from
this client side, for the server ip, so that you can
connect to the server. (of course, security measures /
processes will have to be in place..)
The other thing is to ensure that you are using TCP/IP
from the client side, and not named pipes, to connect to
the server.
Run "cliconfg.exe" and ensure that you are connecting
using TCP/IP.
One more thing would be to add the project server to the
hosts file, on the client machine.
Add the project server, to make it a trusted site.

We have had similar issues in connecting and they were
resolved by following the above steps.
Hope this helps.
