Unable to hide sound icon powerpoint 2003

I'm unable to hide the sound icon in presentation mode. I've done the things
suggested but it doesn't disappear. (ie select the boxes that say hide sound
icon etc). I have about 8 songs (sound files) that start automatically
throughout the presentation. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You should be able to just drag the sound icon off the page and hide it that
way.
