Unable to import mail from Apple Mail into Entourage

Hi All

Has anyone out there been able to import there mail from Apple Mail 2 into
Entourage 2004? I've tried Dragging the mail folder to the desktop to change
it to .mbox then into Entourage but that doesn't work. I've also tried using
emlx2mbox to convert it to .mbox but that doesn't work either.

Sent using the Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac Test Drive.

Mail 2 (Tiger) does not use either .mbox or .eml format any more, so there's
no way to do it directly. Entourage 2004 was released long before Tiger
(approximately when Panther was released) so it doesn't know about it
either. Presumably a later update will have an importer.

I don't know what this emalx2mbox thing is (do you have a link?) but it
sounds promising. If it actually creates real, proper MBOX files then, yes,
they should open in Entourage. Make sure they have an .mbox extension, then
control-click on one of these .mbox files, do a Get Info, choose Opens With,
select Microsoft Entourage 11. (2004), then click "Change All" button. Now
all the .mbox files should have an Entourage icon: you should be able to
drag them into Entourage and/or double-click to open them as top-level local
folders. That's if they really are real, proper MBOX files.

Ah, this one caught me, too, but it's not too difficult to get around.

(1) Select the messages you want to export to Entourage.

(2) Go to FILE › SAVE AS…

(3) Give the file a name and tell it to "Save as Raw Message" under the
Format pull-down menu within the dialogue box.

(4) Find the file you just created -- I tend to do all this on the desktop
-- and append ".mbox" (without the quotation marks obviously) to the file's
name. (Usually the icon changes.)

(5) Drag this mbox file into Entourage. Voilà!

Thanks for the quick response. I tried your approach and it works great
if you only have a few emails to convert. I happen to be an email Pack
Rat and there lies the problem.

After a bit of searching around on Apples OSX software website, I
discovered a great set of AppleScripts, 60 to be exact, it's called
Mail Scripts http://homepage.mac.com/aamann.

To batch convert and email folder to .mbox use the "archive messages"
script. It's simple to use and works brilliantly.

For some reason I was unable to drag the folders into Entourage, so I
had to import them as text / mbox files. It was one extra step but it
worked and I'm up and running.

Thanks again for the support.

I explained how to do that earlier this morning, in this thread. You just
have to change "Opens With" for one .mbox to Entourage and then click Change
All.
