I am using Office 2008 on a duo core Intel iMac running Tiger (10.4.11).
Why is the file extension changing on the document and why can't the recipient open it? Here is what happened, as far as I know:
I sent a .doc (compatibility mode: 1997 - 2004) Word document to a friend as an attachment. He cannot open it. His computer (running Windows XP) cannot recognize the .doc.zm9 extension that the document had when it arrived at his end.
When I received that same email (I am also on the recipient list), I found 2 documents:
1. a Word.doc file with a similar title to the one I had sent that opened fine, and
2. a Word.doc.zip file with the exact title of the one I had sent that did not open.
When I tried to open each one, a dialog box opened with an "are you sure you want to open this . . . some files contain harmful . . such as viruses . . .be sure you open files only from trustworthy sources . . . "
