"unable to read file" in Excel after installing SP-2

I cannot open any Word or Excel files after installing
Office XP SP-2. Tried reinstalling original Office XP
from CD. Didn't work.

I am having exactly the same problem. Do you have a fix?

Am also having the problem. Have reinstalled software, and have placed everything back to defaults. No Luck. Need some help here.
