Unable to send mail

Hi, I am new to this group and to Entourage. I just set it up today and
immediately began receiving mail but was unable to send any. I got the
message that "Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support any of
the available authentication methods." I am using Earthlink as an ISP. Any
suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

For Earthlink, the servers are either mail.earthlink.net or
smtp.earthlink.net

Their server require some non-standard settings. They have a page that
summarizes it:
http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?s=st=50,e=0000000001292734153,k
%3D1994%2Csxi%3D2&article=7923
or http://tinyurl.com/ybbtfy

In summary you need to override the default port and use 587, you need
to authenticate using your e-mail address and password. No SSL.

For sending mail, try using the server smtpauth.earthlink.net

Strangely, another one of the documents on the support site
<http://snipurl.com/16433> does not indicate that you need to use port 587
to send (it works for me without overriding the default port). However, you
do need to check the "authentication" box; if you have your full e-mail
address as the Account ID under "Receiving Mail", you should be able to just
"use same settings as receiving mail server".
