Unable to send message via .Mac account

I am currently unable to send email via my .Mac account through
entourage. I can receive email, and I can send it when I log onto my
account through my web-browser. The message I get is this when I try to
send mail through entourage:

"An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down,
overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."

I tried deleting the account in entourage and creating it again. The
password hasn't changed either. .Mac does not have an announcement that
their server is down. I tried turning off my DSL modem and even reset
that. Nothing. Thanks for any input.

Are you retrieving your .Mac mail through your ISP's server or the .Mac
server (smtp.mac.com in your settings)? Perhaps your ISP has a hitch right
now or the connections to the .Mac server aren't surviving through your ISP.

If you are set up withi .Mac's smtp server, keep trying. I've noticed
occasional sporadic difficulties with my .Mac account's mail as well.

Good luck,

Are you setting the account as a POP or IMAP account? Info on difference
here: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/pop_imap.html>

The SMTP needs to be set to your ISP and you need to set authentication.

What do you have entered as the Sending Mail (SMTP) server in your account
settings? Try setting it to the SMTP server of your ISP, with
authentication if necessary. Some ISPs, like SBC Yahoo, are no longer
allowing users to send mail via SMTP servers other than their own.
