Underlining Numbered Headings

I want numbered headings to be underlined, including the
number and space between the heading text. I can get the
number and the text to be underlined but not the space
between them.

You're right: you can't. This is a bug in recent versions of Word. The only
way to accomplish this, unfortunately, is to set "Follow number with" to
"(nothing)" and type in the (underlined) spaces or tab manually.
