Unerase Entourage Identities?

T

Trikky

Our 3 year old went a little crazy on the keyboard and deleted an entire
identity from Entourage...losing the Email database and other important
things. Wondering if there's any way to unerase those files. Norton
Utilities (installed afterwards) didn't help at all, unfortunately.

I'm using Entourage 10.0.0. on OSX 10.2.8. I'm not holding my breath, but
figure it won't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance.

Each identity is in a separate folder inside ~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office v.X Identities (I think the last folder's right, but as 2004
uses a different folder I can't be sure)

Have a look to see if there's an obvious backup copy of your identity. If
there isn't, and you don't have a recent backup, then I think you are hosed
:-(

You might also consider applying some of the updates to Office v.X while
you're down, as one of them made some improvements to the database. (2004
improves the database again.)

Cheers,

Chris

If you three year old deleted some files, the odds are pretty good he or she
did not know how to empty the trash! Click on the Trash icon in the Dock,
open it, and see if you can find the Entourage identity folder there (it
will have whatever your identity name was).

They may even have just been _moved_ from their correct location, not even
deleted. Do a search in the Finder for all of these, separately if need be:

Microsoft User data
Office X Identities
Main Identity [or whatever you may have renamed your main identity to]

Each folder, starting at the bottom needs to be within the one above it,
and the MUD at the top needs to be in your user's Documents folder, for the
identity to be available to Entourage at launch. Otherwise it will make a
new empty Main Identity . If you can find everything and move it back where
it belongs you'll get everything back.
