The *.msi file is a Windows Installer file for your Office
installation. If it's missing or corrupt you will encounter this
error. To correct it you will need to zap the Windows Installer
entries in the Registry and reinstall Office.
Obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the reference
to Office:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301
Note this will only remove information stored in the Registry for the
Office installation. Other Reg entries for Office and the Office files
will not be removed. Once that is complete then you'll need to
reinstall Office to point the Windows Installer to your installation
CD.
Then you should be able to uninstall Office. I know that sounds
redundant, reinstall so you can uninstall, but the installation needs
to be repaired before you can successfully uninstall Office.
