Unknown effact for check box

When looking at my AutoArchive settings in Outlook 2003,
there is a check box under "During AutoArchive:" that
says "Archive or delete old items." This doesn't make
sense -- what is the effect of this check box? Does it
mean it deletes items in some folders and archives
others?

There are 2 radio buttons under that checkbox one is to move and the other
is to delete
