Unread Contacts in favourites

When I add a public contacts folder to my favourites - if the folder
contains 20 contacts then in my favourites I get 20 unread contacts. I can
set this folder to "mark all as unread" but I want to have the same
functionalty that exists with my inbox. ie if someone changes a contacts
details in the public folder, then I want the contacts in my favourites to
go back to unread so that I can see that changes have been made.

Is this possible?

There are only 2 possible settings, all contacts are unread or all are read.
seems like incomplete functionality by Microsoft.
