Unread view

When I use the Unread folder view, it keeps messages that I've read in the
view until I close and relaunch Entourage. Is this a bug?

When using Outlook 2003 on the PC, the Unread view would remove messages as
I read them, thus only keeping Unread emails in the view.

Thoughts?

No, because you might still want to work with a message just after
reading it, and you'd be annoyed if it vanished suddenly. I regard this
implementation as one of Entourage's best features; I've used email
clients where read messages *did* vanish from the list instantly and it
was infuriating.

No need to close/relaunch, by the way; it is sufficient to switch to a
different folder and come back; the messages you've read will no longer
be there. m.

I'd be happy with going to another folder and then coming back to see only
the unread items, but read emails still show up in the unread view. The only
way I've been able to get it reload the view with only unread emails to exit
and relaunch.

We're possibly talking about two different things. I was talking about a
normal folder (such as Inbox) filtered by choosing View > Unread Only.

I think we are. I'm referring to the Mail Views "Unread" Folder. Sorry I
wasn't more clear.

No problem, I may have read your first note carelessly. - To get the
Unread custom view to update, press Command-L. (Or choose View > Refresh
Message List.)

That's work, I agree, but it's not as onerous as what you were doing
(quitting and restarting Entourage), and I still don't regard this
behavior as a bug, because I wouldn't want a message to vanish just
because I opened it.

Entourage 2001 did that. It was terrible and idiotic. It was changed to the
present behavior in Entourage X by immense popular demand.
So I'm afraid I'm just not succeeding in
sympathising with your finding the matter problematic. m.

Agreed.
