Unreadable email after second viewing - random character replacement

Please help-I have been struggling with this problem now for about 4
months. I receive email fine, read the email, then move on to the
next message...when I go back to a previously read email (and only
sometimes) it is now unreadable with replaced text and characters in
random order. For example: the following sentance: Hi, How are
you?...would be replaced with...NJAShs8274rh&*#)$^&sh0237&^6SD...

This is as random as can be...sometimes it affects all files viewed
and sometimes none...I have lost some important info this way however
and any help is greatly appreciated!!

I am currently using Entourage:mac 2001 v9.0.1 (3108)
