Hi folks. Having a serious problem here. I cannot rebuild my database.
This error says a corrupt database and try to rebuild, but holding
option key causes the dialog box for typical/advanced rebuild to pop up,
and then immediately the program crashes. I tried to switch identities
to see if that would help, but still same result. I deleted Entourage
cache and prefs, but still no go. I ran diskwarrior and corrected my hd.
Still no go.
OSX 10.3.5 and Entourage X

No point in upgrading if I lose my entire database. I was able to export
my emails to a db but I cannot even create a new identity without the -
8796 error popping up.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Jeff

What is weird is that I can open up the program without trying to
rebuild and get my user open, but I cannot fix my database.

Well, I downloaded the 30 day trial of 2004 and it was able to import
the old db no problem and all seems stable. Now if I decide not to
upgrade, can I export the db back to OfficeX?

So far the only thing that bugs me is the ugly groups bar in preview
pane. It is a real PAIN. Can you turn that off globally?

Not directly - there is an export function in E2004, but not sure if that is
activated in the test drive. If so, that will export mail as MBOX files,
contacts as .VCF files and Calendar Events as .ICS files. These can be
dragged back in to EvX.

Also, the test drive is set up to leave mail on server, so it can be picke
dup later when you revert to EvX.

View; 'arrange by', uncheck 'show in groups'. This acts globally for each
class of account - POP, IMAP, Exchange, News etc.

OKAY FOLKS.
Here is the Temporary solution. I uninstalled ALL MS Office apps after 2001
OS9 and reinstalled only 2004 TEST DRIVE.

Everything appears to be working.

What I found is that WORD was also crashing on startup, Entourage was
crashing at splash screen. What was really Odd was that after I started up
OS 9 Classic, Entourage 2004 came back alive and started again... So REALLY
odd.
The only other factor I can think of is that prior to the onset of my
problems, I had cloned my Boot drive to a new Hard drive installed in my
machine because I need more space on the boot drive, and perhaps there was
some secret, hidden permissions file creating the impression that I had an
extra copy of MS apps [although that has never been a problem before with my
clones - which I use as backups].

SO a reinstall seems to have fixed things, but I will know after a reboot or
two. Reading other posts, my problem sounds like a FONT conflict. I am
wondering if M$ could do better at corrupt font recovery, since this is the
only program I have which crashes so badly and completely on font issues
aside from Macromedia.

To be continued....

Nope.. crashing again today with Suitcase disabled. The only fonts I have are
system fonts. BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I may be done using Office and probably will not upgrade. 4 days
trying to get the !@#*@($& to work is way too much time spent. Lost
productivity is not what I need right now.

Woah... Could MS Office crash because of MISSING FONTS????? I turned on
Extensis Suitcase and activated all managed system fonts and voila, the
program opens as per usual...

But the funny thing is, the program opens sometimes after the computer has
been on half a day....
