Update to Entourage 2004 won't see servers

Hi!

After recently jumping (happily) from Eudora to Entourage X, I have today
updated to Office 2004 and Entourage 2004.

I ran the standard Office Install, and the standard Main Identity Import.

Problem: Entourage 2004 will not see any pop email servers, even though
every setting in account setup is identical to those which worked fine in
Entourage X. Any attempt to send or receive mail times out, with an error
stating that the account cannot find a server.

I have checked my network control panel and very detail is correct. I have
removed Office X & prefs, and I have restarted. I still cannot collect or
receive email with Entourage 2004.

I have now reinstalled Entourage X to send this - it still works fine.

Any advice would be very welcome - I'd really like to get Entourage 2004
operational.

Do you have a proxy you need to configure? Entourage X has it's own proxy
settings while 2004 relies on the ones in the Network system prefs.

all proxies in the network systems preference panel are the same as they
were when using entourage X (notwithstanding e.x's own proxy setting, now
absent). the 'use passive ftp mode' option is also checked, as before.

do you think they should they be different in any way? Or do you mean that
there is an extra network system prefs setting I need to configure?

the exact same settings do function with e.x, so I am not certain that this
is the problem...

maybe I am missing something here - any more advice would be welcome

Peter, I have encountered exactly the same issue and I've been wanting
to use the new Entourage 2004. Unfortunately Microsoft is not really
helping us out. Why did they take that feature off? I have no idea...
but someone out there should be able to help us out. If there is no
fix for this, Im going to have to stay on Entourage X and miss ALL of
the nice things Office 2004 has. Darn it.

Did you try to delete the account and then recreate it?
LDAP on exchange would not work on upgrade to 2004 until
account was deleted and recreated. Just a thought
