Updates should not require the CD to install

Being that a significant majority of computers are laptops, and that the
people that use your products are highly mobile, it seems rediculous that you
would require a CD for update installation.

I understand the concern about pirated software, but if you already have
controls in place (ie. making systems unstable if they are pirated) then you
shouldn't need to require the CD.

It's a major problem for those of us that are seperated from our disks, but
need to install the updates.

Hi Eden,

Office 2003 does offer the 'Local Installation Source'
option to lower the number of instances where the CD
might be needed and in both Office 2003 and earlier editions
you can copy the CD to the hard drive and install/run from
that location (depending on addition). It's the MS Installer
that expects to always have access to the original installation
choice to support automatic repairing of the applications.
