Upgrade of Office 2004 - my mail is gone :(

I am running OS X 10.4.8 w/Office 2004 installed. While working today I
was prompted to install the latest update to Office 2004. I did so and
when I was done and I reopened Entourage I had an empty mailbox with a
prompt to import my mail. As I have a couple of gig worth of mail,
contacts, etc... I was stunned. Entrourage is now at 11.2.5

In poking around I have isolated my Entourage database (based on the
name of database, the file assocation and the 2GB size) However,
whenever I try and open it, it "opens" but I do not see my information
- only the stinking "Welcome to Entrourage" default message.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am now dead in the
water - as my contacts, daily travel schedule all reside in a DB I
can't read

Try to change identities (it's under the File menu) and see if your identity
shows up in the list.

You will need to have your 2gb identity folder under the "Office 2004
Identities" folder in you Microsoft User Data folder.

Where did you find the database? For Entourage to use the Identity, move it
to the Microsoft User Data folder -> Office 2004 Identities folder. You
might need to rename it in the finder before trying to open.

Hope this works.

when I do an info on it I see the following:

Size - 2.34 GB
Where: documents/microsoft user data/ office 2004 identities/ main
identity
created: Sat 2/26/05 -

But as I said = when I bring that file up I only get the welcome
message, nothign else - any other suggestions?

Barry - the file is in the right location - however when I open it i
only see the new welcome email and when I do a switch identity i just
see "main identity" - I also have an old backup file in another
directory and when I open it up, I again, only see the one welcome
message and no old data.

That looks like bad news. If the database is 2Gb+, that indicates the data
was in there fairly recently.

However, the welcome message should only ever be displayed if a new database
has been created from scratch, Entourage can't "add" one to an existing
database.

Can you just confirm the path to the data please, in your other message you
gave the path as "documents/Microsoft User Data/...", can I assume that is a
typo and the path starts in your Home directory - i.e.:
"~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/..."
Or
"/Users/[your login name]/Documents/Microsoft User Data/..."

This is critical. If it is in the root documents folder then Entourage won't
see it. It needs to be in the user documents folder.
