I find myself needing to connect to an Exchange server going forward and don't wish to do so through my Parallels and Office 07 (windows). Instead I would like to know if I need to trash my legit 2008 Office for Mac Home and Student and take the plunge to sink another $400 or can I take the upgrade path. I suspect that the upgrade may force the same license key which might be tied to the version. Any thoughts out there? Thank you.

There is no upgrade path for the Home & Student version, however Microsoft
and some vendors have been willing to exchange H&S for the standard version
if you ask within a short time period after purchasing.

The Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition is actually cheaper
than the standard version. $145.56 compared to $279.99.

You could probably sell your copy on eBay.

Note: the H&S version came with 3 CD keys. The standard/special media
version allows you to install on your computer and laptop but you can't use
at the same time if they are networked.
