Upgrading Project 98 to 2003 from SQL 7 DB to SQL 2000 DB?

I need help upgrading my Project 98 DB in SQL 7 to a new server that is
running SQL 2000 ( to be accessed by Project 2003 clients).
I have a Global.mpt from Project 98 that I need to preserve and use in
Project 2003. What are the steps required for an upgrade such as this? Any
guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The global template for P2003 has more in it than the P98 one so I'd suggest
not simply copying it directly into the new install. Instead, in P98 create
a new project mpp file. You can leave it blank if you wish. Use the
Organizer in the tools menu to copy those items in Global that you wish to
carry over to the new installation into it. Then take the mpp file to the
new P2003 installation and reverse the process, copying those customized
items out of the file into P2003's global file, again using the Organizer.

Thanks for the helpful information. My biggest issue right now is that some
of the old Macros refer to the old SQL server and I'm attempting to fix them
with limited experience with VB (changing the server name...).

I have a Macro that opens all available Projects (created in Project 98)
including one that is a Resource Pool for all of the projects. Do I need to
use the Database Upgrade Utility for MS Project or should I be able to open
all Projects from v.98 with Project 2003?

I think you're dealing with several independent issues here. I'm not
experienced using SQL Server to store the project data but I understand the
Database Upgrade utility you're referring to updates the database tables,
procedures etc, in SQL Database so they include the new fields, field sizes,
etc, found in P2003 that are different from those in the P98 database
tables. It deals with the differences between P98 files and P2003 files,
not the differences between SQL Server 7 and SQL Server 2003.
