Upgrading to Entourage 2004

T

Thomas Dorsey

Backstory: Have corrupted Microsoft User Data database file and a few
corrected data files I can't delete in my Delete and Drafts folders of
Entourage 2001 - causing system crashes. Upgrading to MacOS X.3
and Office 2004. Have stored my data files on an external drive and
will do a fresh install of all apps, including Office 2004.
Question: How do I export my other Entourage 2001 folders+files, so
they will be imported into Entourage 2004?

First you have to do an Advanced Database Rebuild in Entourage 2001. Launch
it, holding down Option key, and choose Advanced. If that won't work (as
happens very occasionally with very corrupted databases), you have to hope
that the importer in 2004 will rebuild it, which may or may not be possible.
First try a rebuild in 2001. Then the installer of 2004 will ask if you want
to import. If you've already installed 2004, go to File/Import From a
program/Entourage 2001 and see if it imports. If it does, it should fix
things enroute. There's absolutely no need for you to reinstall Office 2004
- don't do it.
