Upgrading Word 2002 to Word 2003

While upgrading from Office XP to Office 2003 Editions, my Word does not do spelling, thesaurus and grammar as before... Each time I try these functionalities, it launches the brand new Research pane which is blank and has no content/ services at all (useless). The Readme document coming with the new Word 2003, refers this as a "known issue" and suggests a way to mend the problem. I followed the suggestion, yet in my case it did not work out. I am exactly as I was before: no spelling, no thesaurus, no grammar. Any suggestions on how to overcome this issue
