Uploading pdf docs to Court Website and e:mailing as Outlook attac

DocMgmt

Environment: WXP, SP2, Office 2003
Two users accomplishing separate tasks had same issue: both users selected
documents (actually pdf's) from network share. The two users were not
selecting the same documents between them. One uploaded the pdf's to a court
website, the other sent the pdf's via e:mail to a client. In both instances,
all of the different pdf's (documents) had the same internal info, even
though the users had selected different documents with different names from
the network share location. The Court responded saying you sent the same
document twice. The client responded saying you sent the same documents! The
network location documents are labeled correctly and they are all separate,
distinct documents. Anyone have an inkling what could be going on here? One
time, I think a fluke... but two users, two different days, two different
methods of distribution.... ????

doesn't sound like a problem
resulting from word or pdf
convertors and might
be a server related issue instead.

the variables involved
seem to be:

w = word
x = pdf - third party software
y = server, network issue
z = human error.
zz = federal employees
zzz = highly paid federal employees

the z factors is always the
last to be considered.

if it is a fluke, then the problem
cannot be reproduced. however
the possibility exists that this fluke
has occurred before, but kept
confidential to avoid embarrazzment.

you might try to reproduce
this error, the time would
be well spent for a variety
of reasons.

although i do not know what
methodology you will use,
the likelihood that using the
same machines will reproduce
the same issue

fortunately, court documents sent
inadvertently to the wrong
client is not against the law, since
they are public records anyway.

in any case, make it a policy
for all persons transmitting files
to have them copied onto their local
machines first then open them to ensure
the file name match the contents.

perhaps making a special folder
on each networked computer
so that users can copy files from
the network before and for transmitting
from their pc. then with a script or
something the copies can be cleared
out every few days or so, as the contents
of the folder will serve as another record
of what was sent from that particular
machine.

just in case you may have overlooked
you should log your flukes because
after a number of them occur they
are no longer flukes.

all of the above is simply a courtesy of
some suggestions.

however, you might also repost or research
this issue in other forums.
