Urgent - Audio trouble

E

EC

I am working on a number of digital stories using PowerPoint XP. When I
convert presentations into self extracting exe files (using information
sought from the PPTools website from Sonia Coleman & Geetesh Bajaj), the only
audio that works is in .wma format. The other files in the presentation are
..mp3s. In an attempt to fix the problem I converted some of the .mp3s into
..wma files. For some reason these .wma files are inserted into the
presentations as movies. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

If file size is not an issue, consider converting the audio files to .wav
format. PPT can embed .wav audio files so all issues would be resolved. The
down side is .wav files are at least 3X's larger than .MP3's.

Hi Troy,

Unfortunately size is an issue. The presentations are already huge. I've
also had trouble with audio playing in presentations, but when I burn them to
CD (or P&G to a closer location on my system) everything is fine. After
reading up a little in the newsgroup, I think that that particular proplam
may be the path & filename being over 128 characters. Maybe this latest
problem is also related?? I'm testing this theory now... fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Hi PPTMagician, Troy,

I found the cause of my trouble. It actually wasn't the type of audio file
that was the problem. IExpress was only linking audio files with the DOS 8.3
naming structure, while most of the audio I am using does not follow that
structure. Can't believe I missed it, but the last screen of the IExpress
wizard gives the option to
'Store files using Long File Name inside package'. That solved that problem.

As for the .wma files being inserted into PowerPoint as movie files, I am
not sure about this. I think the 'round tripping' process may have done the
trick.

I also tried the round tripping process on a presentation I'm certain has
enourmous bugs in it (it's a much larger file than it ought to be) and my
system came up with a serious error... I was probably a little too hopeful
thinking this one could be fixed.

Thank-you both for your help - much appreciated!
