US Map Plotted via Provided Input?

To All,

I am wondering if there is an existing add-on, function or freeware
component that will link with an Office component to accept US States and
Cities as input and output them in Excel, Visio OR PowerPoint on a somewhat
representative map. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Any suggestions, code snippets, web references or advice would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration of my request.

In Excel, menu Insert > Object > Microsoft Map. This object was in xl97 and
xl2k, i don't know if it still ships with later versions. I believe it is a
component developed by MapInfo. It is quite limited though:
- you only have major cities and states, you don't have zip4 or zip5 in there.
- a a consequence you can only map data to States, not cities and not zip.
- idon't know if the limitation is due to the Map Control or to the
underlying map.
However, you can get a more extensive/detailed maps or control on MapInfo's
website... i don't know the price though.
