Use of field categories - flag, text, number - when to use and not to use

Hi,
Are there thumbnail rules concerning the use of fields - flag, text
and number.
Do the fields have any inter-relationships?
Does MS Project sort first on one field, then on another?
Are there dependencies between the fields?

What is the right way to use these features?
