Using a back-end contacts database with Outlook

Client wants to use Outlook for contact management (needs to sync. wit
mobile devices) but continue to use a contacts database on server
(Data is currently flat files but moving to SQL Server so can easil
change the schema when doing the migration.) It needs to be 2-way
so Outlook user can edit contact data etc

Can you suggest what is the best solution
