using a reference in vlookup with excel 2003

My formula, =vlookup(223995,a2:g19,5,false) works fine
My formula, =vlookup(j4,a2:g19,5,false) doesn't work. J4 is the
reference to the cell containing the number 223995. The return is #N/A

In excel 2000 this was not a problem.

Hi!

Is J4 formatted as text?

Are there possibly leading or trailing spaces in J4?

Mayhaps the 223995 in J4 has an extra space before or after.

Try clearing J4 and re-typing the number.
