using dashes (-)

Heather

I am having problems using dashes (-) in powerpoint presentations. I am using
a lot of words that have dashes connecting them (ie kit-of-parts, on-time,
on-budget, on-site). They show up fine on screen but the words print all
jumbled up. It looks like it is pushing the letters together. It is not
consistent though, there are some words with dashes that print fine. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,
Heather

Heather,

What font are you using?

Does it have the two T's (TT) next to the font name?

Nuts. I see this kind of weird font kerning/spacing issues when using Send
to Word or sometimes just with printing when I'm on a system that has PPT
(well, all Office, really) 2003 on it. It's not just text with dashes in my
case, though.

I suppose the same thing could be happening with 2002, but I *know* it
happens with 2003!

Anyway, first make sure you have updated printer drivers.

Also, we're using HP LaserJets here. I've found that sometimes if I print to
them using a post-script printer driver instead of the regular PCL drivers,
it helps. Or if you have Adobe Acrobat (full version) available, you might
try printing the PPT file as a PDF and then printing the PDF. That sometimes
works also.

Thanks for your help Echo! I will definitely try that. For temporary I've
used the .pdf process to remedy, it's just really inconvenient.

Anyway, thanks again for your help,
Heather

Heather have you tried using the numeric keypad, an "en" dash Alt+0150 - or the
larger "em" dash Alt+0151 - instead of the standard hyphen dash -

I am using 2002, and an HP LaserJet 4000T cannot duplicate your problem.
Everything prints just fine here.
