Using Entourage and Palm Vx - 1 extra contact in Entourage?

J

Joe P.

I really hope someone can help me.

I have 1,624 contacts in my Entourage database, but one less (1,623)
on my Palm Vx. Why? I've tried to do a typical and advanced rebuild
in Entourage, and I'm sure the "This is me" contact is NOT the one in
question.

I set up a new Zire for my wife using Entourage and the number of
records/contacts is exactly the same: 208 and 208.

What can I do?

To be honest - I really like Entourage. I stubbornly tried using it
with my Palm for quite a while (especially since Palm Desktop is so
weak). I finally got around all the problems I experienced with Address
book sync (work vs. home, overwriting, disappearing contacts, etc.),
but I never got the Datebooks to sync properly without trashing each
other on repeating events, and some others. I was very disappointed to
give up on entourage for Palm Sync, but it got to where I was never
100% confident that I didn't lose some important event or contact.
Reliability has to come first before features for my job, and I'm back
to Palm Desktop. Which sucks, but pretty much works as advertised. Good
luck...

The Address Book in Entourage includes groups as well as contacts. The grand
total 1,624 items displayed" will include the group(s) as well as the
contacts, but only the contacts sync to Palm, not the groups. Do you perhaps
have one group plus 1623 contacts? If you're not sure, click on the "Contact
Type" column with the little contact icon. it will put the group at the
bottom. Click a second time to put it at the top.

If you really have no groups, then take a good look at the top of the
Address Book when sorted by name with A at the top. At the very top will be
contacts with no name. Have you any totally blank lines - totally empty
contact? If so, delete it - it was the one not syncing. But you may have one
with no name, no company, no email address maybe just some obscure field or
other. This one might not sync to Palm (although most will with "??????
??????" name there). Give it a name value and it will sync to Palm.

Arkady,

A quick visual way to see which contact may be missing necessary
information would be to export to a CSV file, and then scan the CSV with
Excel. If you are in the Dallas area, I would be glad to try to help :).

I am having the same issue with Palm Desktop 2.6.3 OS 9.0.4 -- Palm OS
3.3), as <[email protected]> with 1 more Contact in Entourage
vs. PDA.

I've tried Merging, Export-Import to "launder" that extra Contact out
of my Desktop File, but couldn't. Otherwise the HS is working and
I've accepted this "evil":)

Paul,

Obviously, there are no Groups in my PD 2.6.3, so that's not the
reason for this extra 1 Contact on PD. I've tried your suggestion
If you really have no groups, then take a good look at the top of the

I don't have TOTALLY BLANK LINES...
But you may have one
with no name, no company, no email address maybe just some obscure field or
other. This one might not sync to Palm (although most will with "??????
??????" name there). Give it a name value and it will sync to Palm.

This is PROBABLY where the problem is, but I am not really clear what
you mean Paul. Can you be a little more SPECIFIC?

ALL MY CONTACTS have Last Names. The ones without
no company, no email address

Hot Sync fine
maybe just some obscure field or other.

that's where the problem MIGHT be, but HOW IN THE WORLD does one hunt
it down?

I'd be SHOCKED if someone on this GREAT LIST will be able to help me
hunt this "mystery Contact" down, so that PD and PDA have EQUAL # of
Contacts!!!

Thank in advance EVERYONE!!!
