Nope, with POP3 all e-mails are downloaded from the server (and deleted
from there). IMAP lists what's on the server (sometimes it also
downloads the e-mails to make them more easily available) and actually
synchronizes everything with the server. Folders created on your Mac
wikk be created on the server, new mail and deleted mail are synced as
well... This allows you to connect from another computer through IMAP
and still have all your e-mails and folders etc (sunce everything
actually remains on the server).

It's pretty conveninent IMVHO.
