Using FREQUENCY - No results

I'm a new user to excel and a secondary school teacher in the UK. I'v
been trying to use the FREQUENCY array function to examine student tes
data.

I have a column with test results (out of 10 say) and a bin column fo
the range i.e. less than 2,4,6,8. I highlight the cells next to the bi
range and enter a formula of the type FREQUENCY(D4:D11,F4:F7) where
contains my marks and F contains my bin range.

I press control+shift+enter but all I get is the formula expressio
repeated in the columns I was expecting the freq output.

As I said, I'm a new user and this is probably a trivial problem, bu
I'd appreciate any help. :

Hi
some ideas why this happened:
- have you entered the equation sing '=' in front of your formula :)
- check the format of this column. If it is set to 'Text' change this
to 'General' an re-enter your formula

Thanks Frank, yes it was trivial. I thought as the formula bar alread
had an = sign I didnt need to put one in!

Ive got numbers now, but not quite what I was expecting. Time for be
and furher investigation later ;-)
