Using organizer to copy styles does not work

M

Matthias HALDIMANN

In Word 2003, I encounter a strange new behaviour:
When I copy paragraph styles from one document to the next using the
organizer, the formats are not copied correctly. Especially hanging ident
and tab settings get lost.
This problem exists also with styles that are NOT based on another style, so
it is definitely not a style "heritage" issue (style copied without its
underlying style(s)).

Does anyone have any ideas/experience on the subject?

Thanks a lot,
Matthias Haldimann

PS: My system is perfectly up to date and contains ALL available updates.

Do the styles involve automatic numbering?

What happens if you copy the styles three times? In the organizer, select
all the styles being copied and press the Copy button three times (allowing
Word to overwrite existing styles). This should only help with problems of
style inheritance, but give it a try.

I tried - copying three times does not change anything.

Yes, the styles do involve automatic numbering, but this seems to work. It's
only hanging ident and tab settings that get lost.

Did you set your styles up according to the procedures listed at <URL:
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html>.

The indents (and possibly tab settings) are controlled by the numbering list
templates and not by the styles.

Are you trying to copy these from one computer to another as well as from
one template to another?
