We need to use an alternative port (we use 26) for SMTP because of our spam
solution. We use a third-party email server (not exchange). The alternative
port works fine with plain text SMTP. In Outlook 2002 SP1 and non-Microsoft
POP/SMTP clients, we can use this port with SSL encryption, but in Outlook
2002 SP3 and Outlook 2003 (I think we're using the RTM version), we cannot.
I've seen the knowledge base article Q307772 for Outlook 2000 (which simply
lists Outlook 2002 as the workaround), but could find no comparable knowledge
base article for Outlook 2002 or 2003. I found references to KB829346 and
KB839629 that suggest that they fix this problem for each version of Outlook,
but those Knowledge Base articles do not include links to the relevant
hotfixes. Anyone have any suggestions
