Vanishing sent mails??

Hi All,
I've got Entourage 2004 on quite a few macs in the office linked up to
an Exchange Server running Small Business Server 2003... just recently
one of the machines has started having issues with Entourage.

When you send an email it goes out fine and arrives to the person
you've sent it to, the issue is that the mails never appear in the sent
box... they go through the outbox but generally do not appear in the
outbox! Sometimes they appear after quite a few days?

Has anyone else had this issue?? Any help much appreciated.

This sounds almost exactly like a problem I have been having for months
now. There are a few Macs (mine included) in a mostly Windows
environment and my sent mail disappears seemingly randomly, although it
does go through to the intended recipient.

I thought I had solved the problem for a little while by creating a
filter which, essentially, told the program to put all sent mail in the
sent mail folder. That worked just fine until this past Friday when I
started experiencing the same problem again, and the majority of my
sent e-mail (which I had previously been able to access) disappeared
before my eyes.

This problem is driving me CRAZY!

I'd suggest setting the filter and see if that works for you. Do you
have an IT person who can review the connections with the server and
see if everything is in order?

Also, I forgot to mention, this is apparently a really common problem
with Entourage. Do a search in this group for "sent mail" and you'll
find a bunch of old threads with info about this topic - and maybe a
solution. Some people seem to be able to solve their problems, while
none of the info I've gotten here has helped me. Ah well.

Hi Zac,
Thanks for that, glad I'm not alone!

Sadly i'm the 'IT' person in the office and for weeks we've been
sorting ever recurring issues with exchange, i'm wishing we never
crossed over from Quickmail!!

We've also got a Microsoft Certified SBS2003 support company spend over
3 days looking into the issues with not a great deal of success...
sadly there seems to be more bugs in the system than on a good alien
movie!

Thanks for the info, will have another trawl through this forum and see
if I missed anything.

Zac,
You are losing or trashing your sent items, IMO. The short story- check
your Entourage settings. Confirm Entourage doesn't misplace sent mail, trash
it, or some other way doesn't keep a copy of the sent item. I think that
it's certain that a server won't return the sent item (which appears to be
what you're trying to accomplish) unless it's set up to be a List-Serv (like
this one).

There may have been a post with a clue awhile back. The clue was check the
box in Entourage Preferences (in Entourage 2004, Prefs>Mail&News>Compose)-
'Keep sent mail in the Sent Items folder'.

If this item is already checked (by default I think it is), then you might
have a Rule which directs mail otherwise. Those Rules are under the Outgoing
tab in Tools>Rules.

You might also check Mailing List Manager for rule assignments that override
the preferences, like the checkbox 'Keep sent items in the same folder'.

Now if I could figure out why I'm deleting attachments in Entourage 2004
(though not with any other email client) on only one server, I'd really be
rockin'...
