View options in Address Book & Tasks

I'm one of the ex-Outlook users who really misses the Address Card
view, with the alphabetical tabs to find contacts or tasks.

If we can't have this, what about the facility to View by Group, just
like you have for mail messages, and group by (for address book)
alphabet letter, category, and (for tasks) by category, due date,
status. By the way, the 'status' in Tasks is really useful and having
a Project Centre isn't a replacement. I used the Task Status to drive
all sorts of things.

Going back to flat lists that are only able to be sorted is really
crummy.

I've never used Outlook, but this is what I think you are looking for.

In the Address book, there is a popup with "Name contains" at the top right
of the window. You can select by category and company. You can also do this
by clicking on the column header for categories and company. If those
columns are not showing, you can add them under View --> Columns.

If you click on the column headers it will sort by that category. For
example if you click on Name it will sort by a-z and if you click again it
sorts by z-a.

The Address Book displays the names as FirstName LastName, but they are
sorted in alphabetical order by LAST name, not first name. Click on the Name
column and you'll see for yourself.

Hi Diana,
thanks for this. What I'm after is the grouping like you can do with
Mail Messages. Eg for contacts, to scroll through all the surnames
starting with A etc. Similarly with Tasks, to have them as a group for
all the ones in each category but see all the categories and all the
tasks in each category on the one screen.

The sort order is just okay. I have to wade through the list to find
the one I want, regardless of the order.

I know it's possible, because Entourage groups emails, and it's great.
Also on my PDA, in Contacts, I can select a letter and it goes to the
first one with that letter of the alphabet.

It would help the usability a lot for people like me.

Regards,
Robyn

In the find window, start typing name. This will sort the names in the
Address Book.

You might be try this script:

Insert Contact Email 1.1

Freeware | Version: 1.1 | Script id: 3409
Author: Allen Watson | Developer's Web Site

Quickly inserts into a message you are composing an E-mail address for a
contact in your Address Book. It inserts the address only, enclosed in angle
brackets, e.g., . It locates the contact when you enter a full name, partial
name, company name, or nickname.
