viewing BMP images in email from a IBM/PC Outlook user

I notice that messages with inserted screen shots sent to me from a
co-worker using Outlook (from an IBM/PC computer) do not show up in the
text of the message (they happen to be called "Outlook.bmp" files in
the attachments section of my Entourage message window). They end up
leaving large blank areas where the graphic should be.

However, if he uses pdf or jpg, they show up fine within the text of
the message (in addition to being in the attachments section of the
message window).

Why is that? Is there a work-around? He prefers the BMP because they
are quick for him to create.

My guess is that Entourage doesn't have native support for .bmp files. Just
open the attachment and it will, by default, open in Preview for you to see.

Your choices......

1) have him spend a few seconds to convert to .jpg
2) you spend a few seconds to open the attachment

Just be glad you have an email program that shows ANY of the attachments.
Outlook and OE on the Windows side neither one show the attachments like
Entourage does. You have to open EVERY attachment to see it there (unless
it is inline html).

Which brings up:

3) have him insert the image in the email rather than attach it (if this is
of such importance for you to see it immediately upon receipt).

If file size is of concern (if you are on dialup), then #1 is definitely the
best option.

Good luck!
