Viewing/deleting/storing mail: which folder does what?

Tony Writer

Hi

Having set up several POP email accounts, I'd like to understand the
difference between viewing them through the 'On my computer' window (which
shows mail received at all my addresses except hotmail) and viewing them via
the dedicated buttons which appear immediately below the 'On my computer'
folder.

In particular, how do these two options relate to mail stored on the server?
If I delete mail when viewed through either window, is it removed from the
server each time? (I know there is a separate 'delete all mail from server'
command when setting the account up.)

Thanks, Tony

POP accounts should only appear as separate icons if you have the "Allow
online access" option turned on in the "Options" pane of the account
settings window.

Clicking a server icon should reveal the server contents. Mail under "On My
Computer" is, well, on your computer. Depending on what options you have
turned on for "Leave a copy of each message on the server" in the "Options"
pane of the account settings window, deleting mail from On My Computer might
have an effect on what's stored on the server.
