Re: Vistor re-entry to training siteNote that cookies are not reliable and are best used only for very short intervals of time. Cookies get over-written on machines that are used to visit a lot of websites, cookies are easily corrupted and as noted by JPK support for cookies in the browser may be disabled.
Furthermore, many many people have wised up and clear their temporary Internet files such as cookies, images in the cache, and history to rid as much evidence as possible so as to avoid revealing that they have been visiting sites they do not want their children or spouse to know they visited. You know what I mean don't you?
Thus, cookies are best used for very short intervals of time. What is short? A couple of hours at most -- maybe up to one day -- for e-commerce sites that need to maintain state and similar short term objectives which even then are still subject to behavior as noted above.
All professional web developers know this. That's why professional web developers use the database to store session state. In your case the URL of each lesson page viewed would be written to the database. Each new lesson page viewed would write over the last database entry. Thus you would always have stored the last lesson page viewed that would be restored the next time a student logs in.

Place a cookie that tells where they are (they must of course have cookies enabled). When they return use the value of the cookie to send them to where they were last.
