VLookup function

Hi all

I know this is elementary to most of you but I am constructing a VLOOKUP for
2500 row spreadsheet(using Excel 2000). Instead of referring to the A** cell
I want to enter the cell "value" which may be number, text or a combination of
both. I dont want to type in 2500 separate "values" for each row. Is there
any way in which I can enter a sub function in the VLOOKUP which refers to
the value in that cell and not the cell reference. In other words I dont want
to put =VLOOKUP(A1,.....) or VLOOKUP("ABC"...). I know I'm not putting this
over well but perhaps you can understand what Im getting at.

I really don't see what you are asking. You can put your lookup valu
or text in cell a1 and then enter vlookup(a1,table,col #) wherever yo
need to

I don't understand your question. If the first argument to VLOOKUP is a cell
reference like A1, it is ALWAYS the value in A1 that Excel looks for, not,
say, a formula that uses A1.
