vlookup

i use the same vlookup formula quite often. is there any
way to a)create a shortcut to just "do" the repeated
function and b)do it without having to open the target
data range.

Todd,

I'm not exactly sure that I understand your question.
However, I sounds like you might benefit from playing
around with Named Ranges and Dynamic Ranges.

However, from your post, it sounds like you might be
writing the same formula over and over again to reference
an independent linked file. If that's the case, a very
simple recorded macro could save some typing and always
refer to the same lookup range.
