vlookup

When vloopup pulls a value from one worksheet to another,
is it linkng the data or actually placing the data in the
worksheet requesting the data?

Is the data really there or is vlookup just reading the
forumla?

Worksheet functions return values to their calling cells, not links, so,
for instance, if you copy a cell with a VLOOKUP() function and choose
Edit/Paste Special/Values, the value returned by VLOOKUP will be pasted.

You can verify this by turning calculation to Manual. Then changing the
value in the lookup table will not affect the value displayed in the
cell (until the next time the cell is calculated).
