Volatile Function Crashes Auto_Open Macro

Hi,

The MS Knowledge database has an article (kbbug KB174319)
that talks about a bug when using the volatile method in a
user defined function in a workbook with an Open event
macro. The work-around is to use the Autpen macro form
instead. I have a user deinfed function that I use in a
conditional formatting formula that wouldn't work with the
Open event macro, and with the Autpen macro it crashes
Excel. This is all in Excel 97.

Anyone know a work-around for this?
